Took a nice run to the Forest Preserve. Lots of Cardinals and no flooding (which is not usual). Apparently I was going along at a faster clip than I thought. I need to remember to equate speed with injury. But I felt really strong today.

DAMN!!! I knew I should have retired my Asics Cumulus 10s about two weeks ago.

Last week I finally logged 450 painless miles on these shoes. Normally you can expect to get about 300 – 450 miles out of a pair of running shoes if you take care of them and only use them for running. The shoe doesn’t know the difference between the grocery store floor and the treadmill. So I only wear them while running. The last pair of running shoes (Brooks Defyance) were super comfortable but went to hell in about 2 months (200 – 250 miles). So I moved to a different brand.
Last time I wore out a pair of shoes I got injured. I had a super deep blister on the ball of my foot that was excruciating to walk on much less run on. Then I screwed it up more by performing some Johnny K surgery with a pin and a razor blade. That side lined me for about 7 days and I moved over to cross training to stay on top of things. On top of what you ask? I don’t know. I just like to run and have a Type A personality which forces me to continue doing it.
Now zoom ahead to Tuesday morning as I hit the path at about 5 AM. I noticed a little pain in my right foot. Then A LOT! I slowed to a crawl and walked it off thinking it was a cramp or something. Eventually I was back up to speed and clipping along painlessly. During the day things tightened up and I felt the pain again. I stretched it out in the gym during lunch and all was well. The next morning I opted for a long bike ride instead of the run for obvious reasons. That felt fine but was still not the smartest thing to do.
Now I have come to grips with the fact that I have sprained my peroneal tendon.
Man does this PISS ME OFF. I am so stupid for forcing it a little too far. Especially when I know the cause is worn out shoes. I have a brand new pair of Cumulus 9s right under my bed waiting to be used!!!!! So today on my vacation day which I would normally run a min 10k or bike 50k and hit the gym for a few hours I am going to let my wheels rest. Like I should have previously. I should have learned last time. Remember Type A personality.
Dumb Guy!
pssssst….. I snuck in a core routine with the ab ball this morning.
