I’m gonna try running Linux (Ubuntu) again.
A few years ago I was running a server in the basement that my buddy set me up with. I was running Mandrake 9 on that sucker with Apache, Samba and a nifty little FTP server. It worked great (software wise) but the hardware took a dump on me eventually. So after that I took my backup files and tossed them onto a external drive and used that as my network attached storage. That did the trick since I had moved my website to a dedicated off site server and that took care of http and FTP traffic.
Now we are running XP and Vista on our PCs but I have the itch. Basically because it’s raining. You see when it’s raining I tend to hole up and mess around with my computers and play video games (geek out basically). But please note I did get out and run 10 miles this AM so I won’t feel guilty about being such a slug sitting inside in front of a display device all day.
So, how am I going to switch to Linux without screwing up everything? Easy, just go to get a application called Wubi. Wubi is an application that allows you to run Ubuntu from a Windows box as an alternate OS. It’s just a little file that helps make the install easier by going out and grabbing the most recent build of Ubuntu all by itself and installs it while you have a cup of coffee. After it’s all installed you can choose between linux or windows after a reboot. You don’t even have to burn a CD to use for the install!!
